Welcome to MainStreet Wilmington!

Main Street Wilmington is a nonprofit partnership created to improve the central business district of Wilmington, Delaware using the Main Street “Four Point Approach”.

Main Street Wilmington was spearheaded in 2006 by Wilmington Mayor James Baker as a partnership between Downtown Visions, Wilmington Renaissance Corporation, the Downtown Business Association, the City's Office of Economic Development and Wilmington City Council.
Since the initial “Steering Committee” meetings Main Street Wilmington has grown to include a board of directors and four volunteer driven committees with participation from a variety of stakeholders in the downtown and has been recognized as a National Main Street program for meeting the ten standards of performance set forth by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Downtown Wilmington is changing, this time for the better. The Downtown Business Association strives to make sure your needs and concerns are understood by the City and the organizations managing the change.  Downtown Wilmington is now a certified Main Street community and you are an equal partner in the revitalization.  (www.mainstreetwilmingtonde.org)

Core focuses of the Downtown Business Association through Main Street Wilmington include:

  • Actively promoting downtown as a place to live, work, shop, learn and be entertained
  • Recruiting quality sustainable businesses to compliment existing downtown businesses
  • Encouraging aesthetic improvements to the downtown landscape
  • Soliciting active involvement from stakeholders
  • Working closely with partner organizations in the non-profit, for-profit and public sectors to minimize duplication of efforts and ensure a smooth yet comprehensive revitalization effort

Some specific projects include:

  • A joint advertising campaign highlighting independently owned businesses
  • The “Fresh Air” Street performers initiative promoting outdoor entertainment to draw potentials customers out of their offices
  • A Strategic Merchandizing Plan for business recruiting and property development
  • A façade improvement program offering matching grants for downtown properties
  • An outreach program to engage the downtown stakeholders as well as the surrounding Wilmington community in the downtown

In the past we haven’t had a lot of public meetings. That’s because like you, the DBA knew that unless there was a realistic street level plan, nothing would change. Well, now there is, and it was the DBA that made it happen. Since you have been in business in downtown, you have been a partner by being a good business. Now is the time to make it formal and show everyone we are partners in the revitalization.

Please fill out the form & return it with a check for $50.00 to become a participating business. If you can afford an additional contribution, it will help, there are no paid employees, every dollar goes towards creating a better downtown. If you cannot afford the money, please fill out the form, you won’t be a paid member, but we will at least be able to notify you of coming changes.  Only with your support can we continue to be the voice of the business community.

Sincerely,

Julia Han

President
