What We Do

Core focuses of Main Street Wilmington include:

• Actively promoting downtown as a place to live, work, shop, learn and be entertained
• Recruiting and retaining quality sustainable businesses
• Encouraging aesthetic improvements to the downtown landscape
• Soliciting active involvement from stakeholders in and surrounding the target area
• Working closely with partner organizations in the non-profit, for-profit and public sectors to minimize duplication of efforts and ensure a smooth yet comprehensive revitalization effort

Some specific projects include:

• The “Fresh Air” Street performers initiative
• A Strategic Merchandizing Plan for business recruiting and property development
• A façade improvement program for buildings on historic Market Street
• And an outreach program to engage the downtown stakeholders as well as the surrounding Wilmington community in the downtown

The efforts of Main Street Wilmington are entirely community driven, with work carried out by volunteers from a wide variety of backgrounds and occupations. This foundational premise ensures that the members of the community have ownership in the direction it takes.
